A young friend of mine sent me a message the other day. He had hit bottom after a failed relationship with a gal he had been living with. Knowing that it was undercutting His own well being, he continued in it despite the guilt feelings he often entertained about his decisions and actions. We met today and he shared with me what was gong on in his life with the proclamation “I can’t do it alone anymore!” I remember a time in my own life when I felt the same way and reached out to an older friend, a Christian man, who helped me find my way by pointing me to Jesus as the way…the truth…and the life. Nothing has changed. When we are most in need, even if we already believe, Jesus is there for any individual who is willing to receive Him as their source of forgivingness, healing, strength, comfort and joy. I can help my friend because I have been helped, but the greatest service I can do is to point him to the One who can minister to him most effectively, in the long run, through a relationship that will continue into eternity. All the promises of God are ours in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, the sooner we recognize that and live accordingly, the sooner we experience the peace, and the comfort and the joy, and the freedom that comes with knowing God, honoring God and willingly obeying God who has our best interest in mind. It was not a sign of weakness for my young friend to reach out for help, it was courageous, and a sign of maturity to recognize his own need and humbly desire to do something about it. Through my time with him this morning, I may have helped and encouraged him, but he definitely helped me by sharing his life with me as his struggle gave me insight into another young life I’m involved with. That’s God at work in our midst today. The Bible has taught me, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another,” It all reminds me that as I have been helped by another, so should I too seek to help another. I pray that you who read this today, will see God at work in your life today. Through the struggles, through the pain, through victories and valleys, God uses it all to shape and mold our character to be His representatives in this day and age. None of it is wasted. All of it is used to accomplish His good, pleasing and perfect will.
